Jesus Prays - Agony in the Garden
After the Passover dinner was finished, Jesus and eleven of his disciples went to the Garden of Gethsemene. Before he prayed, Jesus asked his friends to pray and stand watch. Instead, they fell asleep.
In this artistically rendered scene, Andrea Mantegna depicts "Agony in the Garden." He painted this tempera on wood, c. 1459. It is currently maintained at the National Gallery in London.
