Death of Jesus - Removing the Body from the Cross Disasters Philosophy Trials Visual Arts

In this tempera on wood, Duccio interprets what must have happened after Jesus died.  His body had to be removed from the cross, then prepared for burial according to the Jewish customs.

This work (called the Deposition), which Duccio created between 1308-11, is now owned by the Museo dell'Opera del Duomo in Siena, Italy.
